Andre Blaze’s Early Life

Andre Blaze was born to a mother from Anambra State and a father from Cross River State. He grew up in both Port Harcourt and Calabar. Andre would describe himself as the ‘son of an Efik man and Ibo woman from Umudioka in Anambra state.

He had his secondary education at Bishop Crowther Memorial Secondary School, Port Harcourt. He then proceeded to the University of Port Harcourt for his undergraduate studies in Linguistics and Communication and graduated with a B.Sc. degree in 2006.

Andre Blaze and Radio

Between 2001 and 2002, Andre Blaze worked as an underwriter with Epoch Magazine even before gaining university admission. He began his broadcasting career working for Rhythm 93.7 FM Port Harcourt in 2002. However, he started as an intern with the radio station at the tender age of 16. That, he did for more than 2 years before being placed on the regular working schedule of the radio station.

Despite the fact that he auditioned before becoming an intern with Rhythm FM, Andre would admit that never wanted to be a broadcast journalist. All he wanted to do was to write as there was no enough inspiration; nobody for him to look up to as a broadcaster at the time.

This went on until 2005 when he acknowledged Loknan Eldee Dombin, a one-time Head of Department at Rhythm FM Port Harcourt as his mentor. According to him, it was ‘between him and the late Tope Brown’ that he was born as a broadcaster.
